Freshers Week In the Northern Quarter 2026 - Committed to Safeguarding Our Students

Good Evening all,

A couple of you will have noticed many of the town hall neighbourhood team on plain clothes deployement in the area to ensure any ASB / drug use is dealt with in the area, however that is not the only reason for our deployment this week.

Our team is pleased to welcome back / welcome our new cohort of university students ahead of the academic year and remain committed to safeguarding our students throughout the year with safer street deployment tackling violence against woman and girls and violent / drugs offences.

Our team tonight have been out with officers PC Barnwell and PC Coburn on deployment in the area where a male known to police for previous sexual offences was sighted in the area. Given our commitment to safeguarding our community our team have been given intelligence of individuals to look out for over this week with one male spotted in the area.

Unfortunately for this male his attempts to make off and hide from officers did not quite work out how we wanted with PC Barnwell and PC Coburn detaining this male very quickly to prevent his escape.

This male is now currently in custody facing charges of breaching his sex offender requirements.

Our officers will remain dedicated to safeguarding our students throughout this weekend with further officers being deployed to offer assistance over what will be a very busy weekend in the city centre.
